The Corner Block is situated on the northern slopes of Yandoit Hill, an extinct volcano that offers the cabernet vines mineral rich, well drained soils. The vines were planted between 1983 and 1985 and are amongst the oldest in the region and carry on a long tradition of grape growing dating back to the first Swiss Italian immigrants who came to the area during the 1860s gold rush period. Yandoit Hills is a cool climate location with hot dry summers and a slow ripening period which culminates in a March/April vintage
The 2019 Vintage started in the final weeks of March, the grapes were hand picked and macerated for nine days on their skins before six months in stainless steel vats. The long maceration period gives the wine its distinctive deep purple colour and earthy fruit tones of cherry and black currants. Drinks brilliantly with dark poultry, lamb and roasted vegetables or with ripe and pungent cheeses.
